First Bi-Fuel Station in Texas

San Antonio , TX – The National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition and the Propane Education & Research Council applaud the efforts of the alternative fuels industry in the opening of the nation’s first public Propane(LPG)/E85 Fueling facility. With support of elected officials of Bexar County, Texas, the facility will provide E85 and LPG to vehicles operated by local, state, and federal officials and also to the general motoring public. The station, located at 4023 North Pan Am Expressway in San Antonio, will be holding a grand opening celebration today, October 19, and will sell E85 for 85 cents per gallon from 10:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. The facility will also offer propane fuel.

“This is a historic moment for our County in terms of safeguarding our economic and energy security,” said Commissioner Tommy Adkisson. “By making this local effort, we are helping to change the national landscape,” he added.

CleanFuel USA Chief Operating Officer and National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition Chairman Curtis Donaldson stated, “This is the first public fuel station of its kind in Bexar County, the San Antonio area and the entire State of Texas. Teaming propane with E85 at one site is a win-win. Propane is the most widely used alternative fuel in Texas, the USA, and the world. E85 is gaining ground fast given the wide base of OEM vehicle support in the light duty segment, while propane continues to be the “best” choice for medium duty applications.”

Roy W. Willis, President and CEO of the Propane Education & Research Council stated, “We are pleased to recognize the significant efforts of the propane community in Texas to create new and innovative measures to promote propane. This new site will build on the large number of propane fueling stations in Texas and continue to foster growth in this important market.”

Phillip Lampert, Executive Director of the National Ethanol Vehicle Coalition added, “We have long advanced the notion that alternative fuels are not in competition with each other, but rather should be working together to introduce Americans’ to fuels other than regular unleaded and diesel. The establishment of the first E85 fueling site in Texas is only made more exciting by the partnership that we have established with the propane community. We expect both forms of fuel to excel at this new site and in other locations across the nation.”

A press event ceremony will begin at 10:00 am. and will include: Colors presented by the Fort Sam Houston Color Guard; a welcome by Bexar County Commissioner Tommy Adkisson; and presentations by Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Jones, David Gibson of the Texas Corn Producers, and Curtis Donaldson of Clean FuelUSA. Sausage wraps, hot dogs and beverages will be served and E85 and Propane informational packages will be distributed.

CleanFUEL USA fueling location is open 24 hours a day by using their club card.  You may register for a club card at the grand opening celebration.

The new San Antonio propane and E85 station was funded in part by a grant provided by DOE, a grant provided by the NEVC, and CleanFUEL USA.
