(Des Moines, IA) --
The
Governors’ Ethanol Coalition (GEC) Chairman and
Vice-Chairman, Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty and
Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius, will be holding a
press conference on Saturday, July 16, to discuss high
gas prices, energy independence, ethanol and federal
energy legislation. The event is scheduled to take
place at 4:30 p.m. at Nollen Plaza in Des Moines.
"Minnesota's experience clearly shows the
tremendous economic and environmental benefits of
ethanol," Governor Pawlenty said. "It helps improve our
air quality, it creates new jobs and business
opportunities, and it reduces our reliance on foreign
fossil fuels. With foreign oil topping $60 a barrel, it
just makes sense for us to be moving ahead with policies
that promote greater production and use of home-grown
alternatives like ethanol. That's what we're doing in
Minnesota, and that's what I hope we can convince
Congress to do."
“Biofuels are good for Kansas and good for the United
States. They increase markets for our farm products,
which creates jobs in our rural communities,” stated
Governor Sebelius. “The fuels burn cleaner, reducing
air pollution.”
The event will also include brief remarks
from Phillip Lampert, Executive Director of the National
Ethanol Vehicle Coalition (NEVC) and Ed Wallace of
General Motors (GM). The NEVC and GM have been working
together to promote the use of E85 (85 percent ethanol
and 15 percent gasoline) as an alternative
transportation fuel. A complete listing of E85 fueling
facilities and compatible vehicles can be found at
www.E85Fuel.com.
Nollen Plaza is located at the corner of
Locust and 3rd Street in downtown Des Moines,
one block south and four blocks east of the Marriot and
Convention Center. In case of inclement weather, the
event will take place at the Capital Square Atrium at
Locust and 5th Street. A map of both
locations can be found by downloading the map

The Governors’ Ethanol Coalition is a
